Our Band program is a concert band. The students in these classes learn to play woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone), brass instruments (trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba), and percussion (bells, snare drum, bass drum, and auxillary percussion such as triangle, cow bell, tambourine, chimes, etc).
The 2020-2021 school year our band classes are beginner band level. All the students are focusing on the fundamentals of music: learning to read music, music theory, playing their chosen instrument, and playing in tune. In subsaquent years we will be adding Intermediate band, where the students will expand their skills to include: fine-tuning intonation, building on the music theory they learned the previous year, such as sixteenth notes, triplets, syncopated rhythms, etc. Advanced band will also be added once we have an apropriate minimum number of students who play at that level. These students will begin working on standard high school concert band liturature, expanding their skillset, and continuing to fine tune their technique.
Beginner Band starts at 5th grade. Students younger than 5th grade may be admitted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the band director.
All bands run through 12th grade. Students who have graduated and wish to continue playing may do so. Additionally, we welcome parents who want to join in! If you played an instrument in your past and want to join us, we would love to have you! If you are wanting to learn an instrument, we welcome you as well!
Please note: we are a concert band program. These programs do NOT include drum set, guitar, or piano.
Private instruction for piano is available by the music teacher.
